The Grand Valley State University football team has found a new West Coast rival.
The Lakers have agreed to play a home-and-home series in the 2013 and 2014, GVSU announced Tuesday.
Azusa Pacific, located near Los Angeles, is becoming a NCAA Division II member after being a NAIA athletic powerhouse.
"We are excited to play a home-and-home series against a quality program like Azusa Pacific," GVSU Director of Athletics Tim Selgo said in a prepared statement.
Grand Valley will host Azusa Pacific on Sept. 7 2013, then play at the Cougars on Sept. 6, 2014.
Azusa Pacific will kick off football play in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this fall.
The Lakers complete a two-year series with GNAC member Western Oregon this fall.
Last season, Azusa Pacific posted an 8-3 record and reached the second round of the NAIA playoffs.
Azusa Pacific has appeared in eight NAIA playoffs and won a national title in 1998.
The Cougars have been strong in all sports, winning the NAIA Directors? Cup in succession between 2005-11. The award is the NAIA equivalent of the Division II all-sports award GVSU has claimed eight consecutive times running.
